Rotary International’s Task Force is creating a critical and timely initiative to help India establish Rotary Oxygen Banks to assist India with the critical COVID-19 crisis they are currently facing. As the COVID-19 virus surge sweeps the country, Rotary International’s Task Force is reaching out for support to change lives. After consultation with the Chair of the India Rotary Covid Task Force the most urgent need is for portable Oxygen Concentrators. These units are portable and will serve many in the coming weeks and months. The price of each Oxygen concentrator in India is approximately US $1000 which includes shipping and handling. The goal is to have the funds purchase at least 100 units if not more. The need is critical.

The Bank would loan an Oxygen Concentrator to a patient in need, with the provision that after the immediate crisis is over, the concerned person would return the Concentrator to the Oxygen Bank. Such a Bank would be of help to many people over an extended period of time. Hopefully, this devastating wave of the COVID Pandemic would abate in a while. After that, the Oxygen Bank would be of immense value for any subsequent wave and would be a sensible fallback option. The Oxygen Bank would also be of immense value to economically disadvantaged individuals suffering from ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease) or other chest ailments that require Oxygenation for the patient.”

Due to the urgency of the situation in India this project will be open till the 24th May 2021

We are looking forward to some exciting meetings over August. On the 13th we will be celebrating four students who will be receiving bursaries to continue their education at the university level. All four are excellent high school graduates and we look forward as we are sure they will be making an impact in the future. The Club has several key fund raising initiatives, not the least of which is participation at Breakaway Gaming Center. The Rotarians of Windsor-St. Clair have fun being part of this Center and appreciate being part of their fundraising opportunities. In addition to bursary opportunities, we are raising funds to promote and support many initiatives within our community.

On August 20th, our District Governor, Noel Jackson will be joining our meeting for his official visit - we are looking forward to hearing from Noel as well as sharing directions of our club with him. Noel has been a member of the Rotary Club of Trenton since 2004 and was the club president in 2012-2013, a year in which his club won the Hedke.  He was given the Council of Governor’s (COG) award in 2015 for his exceptional service to Rotary and the District.  He served as Assistant Governor for Area 6 from 2014-2017.  Noel is a Paul Harris Fellow, a Major Donor and a Benefactor to the Rotary Foundation.  Noel has been on International Rotary projects in Nicaragua, Haiti, Ethiopia, India, Ghana, and Tanzania.
