ROTARY WINDSOR-ST. CLAIR TO HOST FUNDRAISING GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Rotary Club of Windsor St. Clair will host the Nijola Memorial Golf Tournament on June 18, 2012 at Essex Golf and Country Club. Funds raised will be used to support Rotary projects and initiatives.
The tournament honours the memory of Nijola Giedriunas, the 2002/2003 President of the Rotary Club of Windsor - St. Clair. In September of 2002, Nijola had just presented the final portion of a $100,000 donation from the Club to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre when she was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, she passed away just weeks later. “Nijola lived and embraced the Rotary motto of Service Above Self," said Club President and Nijola’s former colleague, Paul Charbonneau. “She would have been proud to know that the funds raised through this tournament honouring her memory are used for the betterment of our local and global communities.”
The tournament fee of just $150 per golfer includes 18 holes of golf, power cart and a delicious dinner. The tournament format is a best ball scramble with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. The Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair is grateful to its partner, the Bogey Golf Tour for again organizing the tournament. The Bogey Golf Tour was established in 2003 in Windsor and is a ‘premier tour for the average golfer’ who enjoys competition and the game of golf. Sponsorship and gift donation opportunities still exist.
Rotary is the world’s largest service organization with 1.2 million members. Rotary Windsor St. Clair is comprised of about 40 members from around the Essex Region dedicated to improving our local and worldwide communities by undertaking projects to address hunger, health, literacy, promote physical activity, and provide support to the financially disadvantaged in our community.
